The InterFaith Leadership Council’s roots are with Interfaith Partners, a group of clergy and lay people who came together after the 9/11 attack in 2001 to express solidarity and plan a joint prayer service. In 2009 the InterFaith Leadership Council of Metropolitan Detroit was incorporated as a nonprofit organization to nurture interfaith connection, conciliation and education.
The InterFaith Leadership Council of Metropolitan Detroit (IFLC), established in 2010, is a faith-based civic organization originating from the Interfaith Partners group formed after the September 11th attacks. The IFLC is dedicated to fostering interfaith dialogue, religious literacy, and community engagement within metropolitan Detroit. Key initiatives include the Religious Diversity Journeys program for seventh-graders, the “Faith & Works” podcast, and the Interfaith Health Equity Partnership. The IFLC has also been involved in significant events such as resolving the 2004 Hamtramck controversy, hosting the 2014 NAIN Connect Conference, and supporting Flint residents during the 2015 water crisis.
