Culminating Success: Interfaith Leaders Unite for Maternal Health and Postpartum Care
October 21, 2024
The recent culminating event for the Infant Maternal Health Advancement initiative was a wonderful evening of dedication, and reflection of the success of the initiative. Held at beautiful St. John Armenian church in Southfield, the event began with a warm welcome from Rev. Stancy Adams, followed by a heartfelt prayer and a brief history of the church by Father Aren Jebejian. The keynote speaker, Dr. Cynthia Taueg, stepped in at the last minute but delivered an address on the SEMPQIC grant and its role in driving the important initiative, “Bridging the Gaps Where We Belong, generously funded by the grant.
Jen James, Assistant Program Director with the InterFaith Leadership Council (IFLC), presented a video that shared the core message of the initiative and highlighted the fantastic impacts felt across faith communities these past several months. Kerisha Henderson, Program Manager with IFLC, highlighted key maternal health statistics and the value of the Prenatal and Postnatal Resource Library available on the IFLC website at detroitinterfaithcouncil.com. Raman Singh, Executive Director of IFLC, shared exciting plans for the future, including a focus on postpartum support and resources for fathers.
The beautiful event concluded with an engaging question and answer session led by Rev. Stancy Adams, where audience members, alongside IFLC board member Dr. Paul von Oeyen, provided answers and participated in a meaningful discussion.
This event underscored the importance of continuing efforts by the InterFaith Leadership Council of Metropolitan Detroit and the Interfaith Health Equity Partnership in bringing awareness, education and equity to the issue of maternal and infant health and the dedication to making a lasting impact.
