IFLC Honored for Advancing DEI in Local Schools: A Celebration of Shared Impact

June 19, 2025

The InterFaith Leadership Council of Metropolitan Detroit (IFLC) is deeply honored to have been recognized by Royal Oak Schools for our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) through our Journeys: World Religions of Metropolitan Detroit program.

On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, IFLC joined a celebration hosted by Royal Oak Schools that acknowledged individuals and organizations making strides to build more inclusive and equitable communities. We were humbled to be among those honored and proud to see the impact of Journeys recognized as a vital part of the district’s broader DEI efforts.

Journeys: World Religions of Metropolitan Detroit is more than just a program, it’s an immersive educational experience that opens students’ minds to the diversity of faith traditions and cultures that shape our Metro Detroit communities. By engaging middle schoolers in visits to sacred spaces, conversations with faith leaders, and reflections on shared values, Journeys aims to replace fear with understanding, and division with connection.

This recognition is a reminder that building belonging is not the work of one organization alone, but the result of ongoing partnerships with educators, students, families, and community leaders. We are especially grateful to the teachers and administrators in Royal Oak and beyond who support their students in exploring these meaningful topics with curiosity.

As our communities continue to navigate challenges related to identity, inclusion, and polarization, programs like Journeys are important in helping the next generation develop empathy, respect, and the ability to build bridges across differences.

We thank Royal Oak Schools for this honor and for their leadership in promoting inclusive education. We look forward to a continued partnership!
