13TH ANNUAL SUBURBAN-URBAN INTERFAITH UNITY PICNIC
July 15, 2025
Hundreds of suburbanites and urbanites of many different faith, ethnic, and racial backgrounds will get together for a harmonious afternoon in Detroit at an afternoon picnic on Sunday, July 20, from 1pm- 5pm, at beautiful Palmer Park. Around a large white tent with banner that reads “DETROIT INTERFAITH OUTREACH – URBAN-SUBURBAN INTERFAITH UNITY PICNIC’ is where the participants will gather for this thirteenth annual event. There will be plenty of activities for all ages – from origami to volleyball to dancing, singing, musical presentations, free Bingo, organized kids’ games, face painting, etc. There’ll be lots of good food from around the world as people bring ethnic sides dishes of vegetables, salads, fruit, breads, and desserts to complement the grill favorites of kosher hot dogs, halal chicken, veggie burgers, and hamburgers. The program opens with a beautiful interfaith service to uplift Detroit in song and spirit at 1pm, followed by lunch and other activities. Much networking and socializing take place, and along a row of Info Tables, you can find out about different events of various faith groups and civic organizations that are helping Detroit, plus a Health Check table from Henry Ford Health Systems. People are asked to bring a side dish to share (no nuts, please and put in a disposable aluminum container) a lawn chair, any board games to share, and a ready-for-fun attitude. The program is sponsored by several interfaith groups including the Detroit Interfaith Outreach Network (DION),Detroit Unity Temple, People for Palmer Park, Federation for Peace, CrimeStoppers of Southeast Michigan, the Interfaith Leadership Council ( (IFLC), Common Word Alliance(CWA), WISDOM, Bridging 8 Mile/Association for Youth Empowerment, Holy Ghost Cathedral, and Greater Grace Temple, plus several others.
